For the first time in history, an Estonian performer was on stage for the opening night of La Scala opera house in Milan. Estonian bass singer Ain Anger is playing the role of the monk Pimen in Modest Mussorgsky’s opera “Boris Godunov”, which was the opening performance of the opera and ballet season at La Scala. The opening night took place on 7 December 2022 and performances of “Boris Godunov” will run until 29 December.

Russian nationals with short-stay Schengen visas barred entry to Estonia from 19 September 2022

Estonia will bar entry on their external borders for all Russian nationals with a short-stay Schengen visa. The restriction will come into effect in Estonia on 19 September. It will also enter into force in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland no later than that date.

Travel restrictions to Estonia eased from 1 April

    On 31 March the government of Estonia decided to simplify the rules for preventing the spread of COVID-19 when travelling. The certificate requirement is abolished completely for a large part of European countries. Passengers arriving from elsewhere can enter Estonia and do not have to self-isolate with a vaccination certificate, a recovery certificate, or a negative test certificate.

No restrictions for travellers to Estonia from European countries with a 2-week infection rate of up to 75 cases per 100,000 people

In accordance with the recommendations of the European Union, the restrictions for people arriving in Estonia from EU or Schengen member state, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom are divided into three categories according to the risk level of the country from which the person arrives in Estonia.

Travellers from Italy not required to quarantine after entering Estonia

    The rate of coronavirus infection in Italy has dropped below 150 persons per 100 000 inhabitants within the past 14 days. Starting on Monday, 31 May, travellers from Italy will no longer be required to restrict their freedom of movement for 10 days after arriving in Estonia.

 

Estonia adopts new COVID-19 testing rules for arrivals – updated 19 April 2021

Starting on Friday, 15 January, new testing rules for travellers from high-risk countries will come into effect. If a person does not want to quarantine for 10 days on arrival in Estonia, they must arrive with a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours before arrival. They can then be retested no earlier than six days after the first test was taken. If both tests are negative they may leave self-isolation early.
